EVEREST OF APPLES
Everest of Apples (E of A) is a fundraising organization run by Aomori JET Program participants and the local community. Everest of Apples was established to support education opportunities for children in developing nations.
Our name, Everest of Apples, links Aomori (Japan's apple producing region) to the communities surrounding Mount Everest in Nepal. It also embodies our ethos that good deeds and donations, no matter how small, soon add up. In the words of Everest of Apples founder Richard Paterson, "If everyone gets together and gives a little, great things can be done. If you pile up many apples, you can make a mountain."
Aomori-based ALT Richard Paterson was introduced to Purna Kumar Shrestha, the founder and trustee of the Prajwal Shikisha Sadan English School (Prajwal School). They started a pen-pal exchange between students at the Gonohe Elementary School in Aomori and the students at the Prajwal School.
In late 2002, Richard Patterson and a fellow Aomori ALT, Cameron Wrigley, decided to establish a prefectural fundraising group to support the Prajwal School and thus Everest of Apples was born.
In the first year of fundraising, done mostly through a single event and individual donations, Everest of Apples raised 750,000 JPY. Everest of Apples was able to purchase a computer, a CD/cassette player, furniture, educational materials and reference books, playground equipment, and ceiling fans for the Prajwal School.
In 2009 Everest of Apples extended their fundraising support to Cambodia by repairing the roof of a local Padoga/Orphanage at South Angkor Toch padoga in southern Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia. The roof was full of holes, making living and sleeping difficult for the children there, especially during the rainy summer season. During this time Everest of Apples developed a strong relationship with a local NGO called This Life Cambodia (TLC) and Everest of Apples for fundraised for two years to contribute to their Lower Secondary School Development Program at the Krabei Riel School.
Thanks to the support of Aomori JETs and the Aomori community, Everest of Apples has been able to provide financial assistance to Prajwal School for building, transportation, scholarships, and teacher training. We are grateful to the JET community and the people of Aomori for their continued support.
営利団体を設立し、こうしてエベレスト・オブ・アップルズは誕生しました。
設立１年目で行われたうちの１つのイベントでEoAは一般人達からの寄付のみで約７５万円を集め、プラジュワル校へパソコンやＣＤラジカセ、学校用具、教材、参考書、遊具や天井扇風機を寄贈しました。
２００９年、EoAは南アンコールワットシエムリ―プにある南アンコールワット・トーチ児童擁護施設の屋根を修繕するなど、その活動をカンボジアまで広げました。とりわけ雨季には屋根が穴だらけだったため、そこで暮らす子供達には寝起きするのも悲惨な状態だったのです。This Life Comodia、ディス・ライフ・カンボジア（以下TLC）と言う※２ＮＧＯと絆を強めたEoAはクラベイ・リエル中等学校の教育工場を目指すプログラムへ２年間寄付を送りました。
青森ＪＥＴと今までに参加された皆様、誠に感謝します。
おかげ様でエベレスト・オブ・アップルズはプラジュワル校に校舎や奨学金、教師の研修費など経済的助成をする事ができました。今までのご支援に心よりの感謝を申し上げますと共にこれからも皆様のご協力をどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

活動概要
Everest of Apples，エベレスト・オブ・アップルズ（以下EoA）は青森県※１JETプログラム参加者と青森の仲間達により運営されている非営利団体である。EoAは途上国の子供達へ教育を受ける機会を援助する為に開設されました。
エベレスト・オブ・アップルズという名前は日本有数のリンゴの産地である青森県とエベレスト山脈で有名なネパールとの橋渡しになると言う信念の元、名づけられました。いかに些細な行為でも、いかに少額であっても捧げようという「善行と無償の精神」がモットーです。
青森に拠点のあったリチャード・パターソンはネパールにあるプラジュワプラジュワル・シェキシャ・サダン英会話学校（以下プラジュワル校）の理事長、パーナ・クマー・シュレスタに紹介されたのを機に県内にある五戸小学校の生徒らとプラジュワル校の生徒達とで文通を始めました。
